Shooting, Stabbing In Downtown Salina

Shots are fired from a high powered rifle and a person is stabbed during an altercation outside a downtown Salina bar early Sunday.

Police tell KSAL News that officers were called to the Inferno at 122 North Santa Fe at around 2:30 in the morning to a report of shots fired.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that there was a disturbance outside the club after it closed. During the disturbance a 26-year-old male was stabbed in the right abdomen. He was transported to Salina Regional Health Center where he was treated for a non-life threatening stab wound.

Sweeney says that at least two shots from a high powered rifle were also fired during the disturbance. The shooting happened in front of the bar, the stabbing behind it.

No one was hit by the shots, but a nearby business was. Two bullets hit a front window of The Arena sports collectible store, at 127 North Santa Fe across the street from the Inferno. One person was sleeping inside at the time, but was not hit. According to the business, a dog was also inside the building and was nearly hit by the gunfire but also avoided injury.

Sweeney says that several suspect vehicles have been identified, but as of Sunday afternoon no arrest had been made as police continue to work the case.

Sweeney described the suspect vehicles to KSAL News as a newer model white sedan, a newer model black Crown Victoria, and an unidentified third vehicle. He described the shooter as a black male, standing 5′ 8″ tall, and weighing about 200 pounds.
