Police: Alcohol a Factor in Incident

A Salina man is arrested while trying to reach for a pellet gun.

Salina Police were called to a home at 937 Pearl Avenue Thursday just before 5pm to calm a distraught man.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that 42-year-old Timothy Johnson was intoxicated and making threatening statements when officers arrived.

Police say he made suicidal statements and also told officers they better call for backup.

After a brief struggle with the two officers, Johnson allegedly stepped into the kitchen and reached for a Marksman, Co2 pellet handgun that was inside a cabinet before being restrained.

He is now facing charges of aggravated assault and interfering with a law enforcement officer.
