Mailbox Check Altered in Forgery Case

A stolen check from a mailbox may lead to theft and forgery charges.

Salina Police are investigating an attempted theft case that began last week when a known suspect allegedly stole an outgoing piece of mail that contained a credit card payment to the Bank of America for $4,400.

The suspect then altered the check, signed it and tried to cash it at Speedy Cash at 1220 W. Crawford.

Police say the suspect left the store when staff contacted the victim about her checking account.

The suspect has not been arrested and no charges have been filed yet.
