Injury Crash on Old 40 Hwy

A woman from Abilene was injured in a single vehicle crash Wednesday.

According to Lt. Mike Smith with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Rebecca N. Smith and her 4-year-old daughter were transported to Salina Regional Health Center after a rollover accident on Old 40 Highway near Donmyer Road.

Deputies say at 6:30pm Wednesday, Smith was driving a 2003 Ford Focus eastbound when the passenger side tires dipped onto the soft shoulder and she over corrected – causing the car to cross the center line.

Moments later she pulled the car back to the right and entered the ditch rolling once.

Smith, who is 7-months pregnant complained of stomach pain and was treated at the scene for a cut on her head that was bleeding.

Both she and her daughter had been wearing seatbelts and both were taken to the hospital for observation.

The vehicle was destroyed in the crash. The name of the child was not released.
