Hospital Incident Prompts Arrest

A Salina man was arrested Monday in connection with an alleged incident that happened back in early in July in the emergency room at Salina Regional Health Center.

Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that 20-year-old Haydyn Best made suicidal statements as he was being arrested back on July 5th. He was being arrested following an alleged incident where he was accused of pulling the hair of an acquaintance during a domestic dispute. Because of the suicidal statements, he was transported first to Salina Regional Health Center.

Sweeney says that as Best was getting out of the police car at the hospital, he ran from the officer. He was caught, and taken into the emergency room entrance.

Once inside the ER, Best allegedly damaged a cabinet door, and destroyed a sharps container with bio hazard waste in it. He also is alleged to have blown snot onto an officer, as he claimed to have a communicable deadly disease. As a precaution, the officer was treated at the hospital.

Best was arrested on a warrant on Monday, and could face multiple possible charges that include aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and criminal damage to property.
