Burglars Ruin Move

KSAL Staff - September 3, 2015 10:40 am

A home packed up for a move this weekend was ransacked by burglars in Smolan.

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that 15-year-old Mckayla Miller came home from school Wednesday afternoon and discovered the door to her family’s home had been forced open.

She ran to a neighbor’s house and called for help.

Deputies responded to the property in the 3600 block of Smolan Road around 4:20pm and found that numerous items had been stolen from boxes that were packed for a move to Salina.

According to homeowner Mark Miller, dozens of items were taken including a 32-inch flat screen TV, a safe with a coin collection and personal papers.

Deputies say an air compressor and a power generator were also stolen along with a gold wedding band and numerous hand tools.

Total loss and damage is listed at over $5,300.
