A Salina woman avoided becoming a scam victim when she had second thoughts after withdrawing $18,000 from her bank.
According to Salina Police, the 77-year-old was communicating with someone claiming to be from Microsoft. after being convinced her computer was infected, she gave the person remote access to her computer.
She was told she needed to send money to fix the issue. She was instructed to go to her bank and make a withdrawal, including what to tell bank employees and to lie to them if necessary.
After withdrawing $18,000 she had reservations and reached out to police before parting with the money.
Police confirmed to her this was a scam, and advised her to have her computer checked to make sure no malware had been downloaded.
