GIRLS FINAL: DERBY 54 SALINA SOUTH 19
It was a tough finish to the regular season for the Salina South Cougars as they fell on the road to the Derby Panthers 54-19 on Tuesday night.
The Panthers raced out to an early 10-0 lead, but the Cougars responded with a pair of three point shots from Paityn Fritz to narrow the gap to 10-6. Derby took over from there however, going on an 8-0 run to hold a 18-6 lead after the first quarter.
Derby extended their lead in the 2nd quarter, in part because Salina South was unable to get into a rhythm offensively, ending the quarter 0-10 from the field as Derby extended their lead to 30-9 at the halftime break.
Derby kept up their pressure the rest of the way and the Cougars never found their own stride en route to 35-point defeat.
Paityn Fritz paced the offense scoring 13 of Salina South’s 19 points on the night. Brylee Moss and Elle Barth chipped in three points apiece as well.
