Zoo Veterinarian To Speak At KWU

The veterinarian from Rolling Hills Zoo will speak at Kansas Wesleyan University.

According to the school, the Smoky Hills Audubon Society will host “Lions and Tigers and Bears…and Birds, Too” Thursday evening at 7:30. Dr. Danelle Okeson will talk about her experiences with the animals at Rolling Hills.

Dr. Okeson holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from KSU’s College of Arts and Sciences. She completed an internship in zoological medicine at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and worked at USDA’S National Research Center in Fort Collins, Colo., as an APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) Science Fellow on a chronic wasting disease research project.

Dr. Okenson also served as the Associate Veterinarian at the San Antonio Zoo. Dr. Okeson returned home to Salina in 2008 as the Staff Veterinarian for Rolling Hills Zoo.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held in Peters Science Hall, Room 229. A social will precede the presentation.
