A teen planning to move to Salina is scammed online while attempting to rent a place to live.

Saline Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that  an 18-year-old female was planning to move to Salina. Using Craig’s List, the teen found a home for rent at 1431 Kiowa.

She was instructed to wire $1,000 via Western Union to a person whom she believed was the landlord’s secretary in Brooklyn, New York. After the money was received, keys were supposed to be sent to her via Federal Express.

After wiring the money, the woman received no further communication. She became suspicious, contacted a real estate company in Salina, and discovered she had been scammed.
