Woman Leaves Hurt Toddler on Bus, Buys Liquor

A Salina woman is facing charges of endangering a child after allegedly leaving her toddler on a bus to buy liquor.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that 29-year-old Kathy Johnson was arrested after a ride to the hospital in an ambulance with her injured child.

Police say last Friday, the 13-month-old boy was wandering around a City Go Bus and was hurt when the vehicle turned into the parking lot at Dillon’s on Planet Avenue around 5:30pm.

The child suffered a cut on the back of his head.

A concerned citizen called 9-11 after the mother left the bus without her child. Police arrived after the woman boarded the ambulance with the toddler and arrested her a short time later at the hospital.

EMS told officers that Johnson was drinking liquor from a bottle in the ambulance.

The child was kept overnight for observation and placed into protective custody.
