Woman Avoids Being Scammed

A Salina woman avoids being scammed.

Police say that a 72-year-old woman received a phone call early Friday morning from someone claiming to be a nephew. The caller claimed to have recently been involved in a crash. He said that he was “in-between” insurance companies”, and needed $954 to pay for the damage.

The caller asked the woman to wire the money, and said he would pay her back later in the day. The woman became suspicious, though, when the caller asked that the money be sent to Mexico.

She ultimately did not send any money, and instead called police.
