Welcome Party Planned For New Grocery Store

A special event is planned to welcome a new grocery store to North Salina.

Salina Downtown, Inc. and the North Salina Community Development Committee are hosting a “Welcome to the Neighborhood” party for the new Save A Lot grocery store to celebrate the beginning of the construction project.

The “Welcome to the Neighborhood” party will be held on Friday, July 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the site of the new grocery store at 505 East Iron Avenue. There will be free t-shirts, hotdogs, sno-cones, and soft drinks until supplies run out. A ceremonial groundbreaking and demolition kickoff will take place at 5:30 p.m. A representative from the local Save A Lot franchisee is expected to attend, along with a variety of community leaders who made this project possible.

The party, sponsored by neighboring businesses B&K Prescription Shop, ReMax Advantage Realtors, and the employees of Burger King, is a celebration for the thousands of Salinans who signed the petition to keep a grocery store at the location of the former East Iron Dillon’s and a way to demonstrate the community’s gratitude at having Save A Lot make the commitment to northeast Salina. The new Save A Lot store is tentatively scheduled to open by the end of 2014.
