VIDEO: Wounded Marine Gets New Home

A retired Marine sergeant who lost both legs in Afghanistan is getting a new fully accessible home in Reno County.

James “Matt” Amos will receive the key to the home in a ceremony Saturday.

Amos lost both legs in an explosion in 2011 when he was on his third deployment to Afghanistan.

The new home is thanks to Homes for Our Troops, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization that coordinates development of homes for soldiers wounded since Sept. 11, 2001. This is the second Homes for Our Troops in Kansas.

In the program, companies and individuals donate money, materials and labor. Federal grants provide up to about $65,000, and Homes for Our Troops makes sure expenses above that amount are covered.
