Vehicle Thief Still at Large

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office continues their search of a possible known vehicle thief.

Sheriffs Captain Roger Soldan tells KSAL News that the suspect who stole three vehicles on Friday is a local man in his 30s and could possibly be armed and dangerous.

At 7pm on May 2nd the suspect first stole a 2011 silver Suburu Legacy from the 700 block of Highland. Salina Police were dispatched after the owner of the vehicle had her purse and keys stolen from inside her home while she was outside. The vehicle was later found at Long McArthur Ford undamaged.

Officers were then sent to Long McArthur Ford after the suspect entered the business and left. Employees say the man entered acting nervous. It was then discovered that the keys to a 2013 Lincoln MKS rental vehicle were stolen. It was later recovered along old 81 highway and Sundgren Road.

Before abandoning the Lincoln MKS, the suspect attempted to steal two other vehicles in the town of Assaria. At 750pm the suspect entered a home in the 200 block of South Fairchild. An owner of the home found him going through her purse. With keys in hand the man fled the home, attempted to steal the vehicle, but eventually gave the keys back to owner after she pursued him.

After fleeing that residence he came to a home in the 400 block of East Kansas. At 8pm while the owner of the home was working in his yard, the suspect walked up the driveway of the home, went into the garage and entered the victims vehicle. When the homeowner approached the vehicle, which had its keys in it, the suspect eventually exited and left.

From there he would approach the 800 block of East Sundgren Road in the area where he left the Lincoln MKS in a field, and stole a grey 2007 Chevrolet Silverado belonging to the Monsanto Company of Halstead, KS.

Lindsborg Police were able to chase the truck but it was lost.

As of Monday morning, the vehicle, listed at $20,000 has not been located.
