USD 305 Ready for Public Q&A

Jeff Garretson - August 22, 2013 10:27 am

USD 305 Superintendent Bill Hall is inviting the public to a community meeting tonight at Salina South High School.

Hall, now in his third year at the helm of Salina schools, stopped into the KSAL Morning News Thursday with a look at some of the challenges that lie ahead for the district.

“We have some structural issues at South High, we have some renovations that are necessary at Central High,” he said.

Hall tells KSAL News that the USD 305 School Board spent about a year developing the seven primary needs of the district. “Now we’re engaged in this process involving the community where we are sharing that information with them and getting input from the community as far as how best to proceed.”

Hall pointed to all-day kindergarten, career tech ed, school safety and security and additional space for students with special needs as other issues that face USD 305 in the coming years.

The community meeting is tonight at Salina South High School beginning at 6pm. Facility tours will begin at 5pm.

Doesn’t matter what the public or the parents think. They will do what they want to do.

Hall wait until the last minute possibe to give the taxpayers notice of this meeting. Just another tactic. Hall you have a full staff employed as far as electricians, plumbers, construction people and maintance. Yet not of these people on your payroll could fix and do the upkeep on these buildings for the last 20 years. You have been here 3 years and once again they have done nothing. Now you are trying to save the bond that is due to expire that the district promised all the taxpayers it would expire when they were wanting us to vote on it and now you wish to reneg on that also. When South high school was built the District pushed it as being the school of the future and would not listen to one person who saw fault. Now its a piece of junk. Sorry as a taxpayer I only have so much money and the city and county has already spoke for it. The school district needs to look elsewhere or make do with what they have.

If they try to seek this in on us I believe we need to clean house completely from top to bottom. I have had enought of the students receiving substandard educations while the district has a payroll bigger then the city.

Hall you and your staff evidently think more of teaching students to past tests that the district is being judged on rather than teaching and preparing these students for their future endeavours and life.

I also attended this meeting and Hall and his school board really put together an impressive tour. But it just reflects back on both of them who are paying out alot of money to people on their payroll that could have taken care of many of the problems but evidently were advised not to so all this could be brought up and the bond not retired. I am also with others that there is only so much money to go around and employers have not given raises like they once did so we have to stretch our monies. Evidently the politicians and school board does not see it that way. It is find if the county wants to take over the Health Department but don’t raise our taxes to do so. Cut back programs and staff and wages if needed. Times are tough as you can see by all the crime taking place in our area. All taxpayers should start protesting all the proposed tax increases by the county, city and school board.
