UPDATED 7:45 AM 5-30-13

A 10-year-old girl was transported to a Wichita hospital after she suffered an electrical shock Wednesday evening in Salina.

The girl and three other children were playing outside, in the Campbell Plaza area, downtown in the 100 Block of South Santa Fe as a thunderstorm over Salina.

After receiving the shock the girl was first transported to the hospital in Salina by EMS, and then transferred to a Wichita hospital. Her condition was not immediately available. The other children were taken to the hospital in Salina.

Westar Energy released a statement saying it did not believe its equipment was involved but the utility would work with investigators to help determine a cause.

The National Weather Service says Salina received more than 2 inches of rain between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, accompanied by intense lightning.
