KSAL Staff - April 1, 2015 7:06 am

Two people were killed when a small plane crashed in eastern Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, A 2006-fixed wing single engine Light Sport Zodiac piloted by 67-year-old Herbert Lewis Siegel of Stillwell took off headed north from a private grass airstrip two miles northwest of Pleasanton. The aircraft became airborne for about 50 feet, before it drifted to the west striking the tops of trees and crashed into a wooded area.

Both Siegel and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger is identified as 57-year-old Brian Clark Decker from Independence, Missouri.

The crash happened at 3:48 Tuesday afternoon in Linn County.

The Federal Aviaition Administration is investigating.
