Trail Derails Near Dorrance

No one was hurt when multiple train cars carrying coal derailed in central Kansas over the weekend.

Authorities say that the derailment happened Sunday near Dorrance in Russell County.

KWCH reports that emergency management in Russell and Ellis Counties say they was not called in response, and a Union Pacific spokeswoman confirmed there were no injuries to the freight train’s crew, nor to the public.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation. Crews were preparing to work overnight to clear and repair the rail line before removing debris to clear the site.
