A 17-month-old boy has been hospitalized after being pulled from a private pond in Wichita.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department says the child was pulled from a pond early Monday. Police say he was taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition.

Wichita police Sgt. Kelly O’Brien says the boy apparently left the family’s house and fell into the man-made pond in the backyard.

Once again where were the parents???????? They should be charged with attempted murder or at least manslaughter.

Red Neck you obviously aren’t a parent. There could be a number of reason why the parents weren’t right there, mainly because you can’t watch your child every second of every day. You have to go to the bathroom once in a while, and for some parents that is the only time of solitude away from kids. They obviously found him pretty quickly since he didn’t drown, so mom may have just turned her back to switch laundry, or stir supper, or go to the restroom, and the little one got out. I’m sure every parent has had that panic moment when you child has wandered away from where you could see them while your back was turned. If you haven’t, then you are either the world’s worst “helicopter parent” or you have no children or left the care of your children to your wife while you watched tv. I’m glad they found this baby and he was rescued. Hopefully he can make a quick recovery, and live a long happy life

Alesha have you ever heard of door locks? You point out many things and even if any of those were true a simple locking of the door would have prevented this. He is right parents no longer are responsibile as their parents were.

Locking the doors may not have worked. When my son was 10 months old, he learned that he could push a chair up to things to reach what was already too high. This child could have used something to reach the handle the parents thought was out of reach. I am not saying they are blameless, I was just merely responding to Red Neck and the fact he thought criminal charges should be brought against the parents when no evidence was said that there was any neglect involved. Accidents happen, that doesn’t mean anyone should be criminally charged unless there is evidence that this was just an act of complete neglect on the parents’ part

You people make me laugh! Does nobody realize this happened at his GRANDPARENT’S house!!! So easy to cast the first stone! Have any of you been at your grandparent’s house and they forget what it’s like to have a toddler around and what trouble they can get into??? Glass houses people!!!

Well cabman if you are telling the truth then more so those grandparents should have known to lock their doors so the kid could not get out. Adults are suppose to think like adults and protect young childred.

If it was the grandparents that would be the last time they had my kid. I suppose they also have door locks there just is no excuse for this happening.

They just released that this little guy didn’t make it. They also released that he crawled through a dog door. So saddened that this baby didn’t make it, and I feel for the family having to deal with the tragedy of losing such a young life. Prayers go out to them all.
