UPDATE: Arrest in Suspicious Fire

A Salina man has been arrested after allegedly setting a house on fire, and then stealing a truck to leave the scene. Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that 38-year-old John Miller was arrested in connection with the case Friday morning.

At 8:58 in the evening two girls passing by observed a fire inside a home at 562 Berkshire. The fire was visible from the outside, through a front window. The girls called 911.

No one was home when first responders arrived. They found an active fire in the house. Firefighters were able to quickly get it under control.

There were no injuries, but the house was left uninhabitable.

At about the time the fire started, a truck was stolen from near the home.

According to Sweeney, Miller and 51-year-old Jeffrey Burris lived at the home. While Burris was away, Miller allegedly set the house on fire, and then stole the truck to get away.

The truck was parked, with the keys in it, in the area. It has not been recovered.

Miller returned to the home Friday morning, where he was arrested.

No one was hurt when a fire broke out in a Central Salina home Thursday evening.

Williams was working to determine a cause of the fire late Thursday evening.

At about the time the fire started, a truck was stolen from near the home. Authorities are investigating if the two are connected.
