Supply and Demand

Crews at the Lakewood Discovery Center are preparing for a fishing event that continues to grow.

“We add catfish every month from May to September,” said Brian Underwood Supervisor of Natural Resources at Lakewood.

“We also add a extra stocking at the end of May so there is plenty to catch and plenty to haul in.”

Underwood and Sgt. Brent Rupert with the Salina Police Department joined in on the KSAL Morning News with a look at “Fishing With a Cop,” coming up on June 4th.

In 2015 the event drew over 150 kids who showed up to throw a line into the water at Lakewood Park.

The event is a spin-off from the annual Lakewood Fishing Derby that added the involvement of local law enforcement from the Salina Police Department, Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and Officers with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks.

Drawings will be held for prizes that include fishing poles, kayaks, a gas grill plus a couple of fishing trips to Lake Texoma and Milford Lake.

To register for the free fishing day on Saturday, June 4th at Lakewood Park contact the Salina Parks and Recreation Department.
