Stolen Gun Used in Assault

KSAL Staff - May 23, 2016 12:22 pm

Salina Police

A Salina man was arrested after pointing a stolen handgun at a woman.

Police arrested 25-year-old Xavier Matthews after a verbal argument turned violent in a home at 509 N. 12th Street around 8am Saturday morning.

Police say Matthews pointed a .22 pistol at the woman and threatened to kill her.

He fled the scene and was arrested a short time later.

Further investigation led officers to connect the weapon to a gun reported stolen from a home in the 700 block of Fairdale on January 9th.

He is now facing charges that include aggravated assault, criminal threat and theft.

I am sure they wont due much to him. most people who steal a gun, shoot their way to salina, hit parked cars and run from the police are only givin 2 years probation, a little restitution and all the trouble they had with the law prior to that is overlooked. why do the police even bother putting their selves in a bad situation only to be shut down and ridiculed in court by these light sentences?
