Stockade Splits Doubleheader in Alpine

KSAL Sports - July 20, 2016 6:34 am

The Salina Stockade salvaged a split of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Alpine, Texas, dropping the opener 10-2 before rallying for a 10-4 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Stockade scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but then Alpine took control with six runs in the bottom half of the inning, and never looked back.

In the nightcap, Alpine built a 3-0 lead through two innings before Salina pushed across four runs in the third. After Alpine got a run back, the Stockade added another run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take the commanding 9-4 lead and rolled to the 10-4 victory. Steven Longo and Ray Hernandez each had three hits, with Hernandez driving in three runs. Skyler Janisse worked a complete game, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Stockade is 27-30 overall, and leads Topeka (25-31) by a game-and-a-half for the third and final playoff spot in the North Division of the Pecos League with eight games remaining for the Stockade. The Stockade plays its season finale against Alpine tonight.
