Mike Hammett - October 5, 2013 6:18 am

The Southeast of Saline Trojans cruised to their fifth win of the season on Friday night, blasting Russell 55-0.

Southeast jumped all over the Broncos in the first quarter. The Trojans scored on a 15-yard run by Dane Long to open the scoring. Then, Keith Short cashed in on a 1-yard run. Finally, Cody Schlesener scored on an 11-yard run, giving the Trojans a 21-0 lead after a quarter.

It was more of the same in the second quarter. First, Schlesener hit Kyler Sager for a 52-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 28-0. Schlesener would pick up his second rushing touchdown of the game moments later, as Southeast led 35-0. The Trojans capped first half scoring with a nine-yard run by Short, as they led 41-0 at halftime. The Trojans were assisted to their first half lead by four Russell turnovers.

In the second half, the Trojans rotated in everyone on the roster. Kendal Peterson caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ben Murray, while Lane Smith added a five-yard touchdown run, as Southeast won 55-0.

The Trojans were led by 82 yards rushing from Long. Short added 73 yards on eight carries. Nine different players carried the ball for the Trojans. Schlesener was eight-of-nine passing for 118 yards and one touchdown. The Trojans outgained Russell 412 to 106. Russell did not attempt a pass on the night. 269 of the Trojans’ yards came on the ground.

Southeast is 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the NCAA. Southeast faces Beloit this week.
