Southeast Girls Take Smoky Valley Invite

The Southeast of Saline girls track team won Thursday’s Smoky Valley Invitational track meet, while Sacred Heart finished third on the boys’ side of the competition in Lindsborg.
Southeast’s Allison Stutterheim picked up a pair of wins, taking the 800 meters in 2:25.00 and the 1,600 in 5:34.06. Emily Wiles won the high jump by clearing 5 feet.
Southeast scored 88 points to take the team title over Hutchinson Trinity at 74 points. Sacred Heart placed 10th in the girls standings with 18 points.
In the boys’ competition, Sacred Heart was paced by two wins from Chris Sandquist. Sandquist won the 800 in 1:59.66 and the 1,600 in 4:55.66. Austin Palen added a win in the 110 hurdles in 15.74, and Clayton Wetter claimed the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 2 1/4 inches.
Southeast had four winners in the meet. Matt Helvey won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches, and the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 3 inches. Toby Mantz won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Southeast also won the sprint medley relay in 50.35.
Sacred Heart placed third with 66 points. Buhler won the meet with 92 points while Marion was second at 73.
