HIGHLIGHTS: South Rolls Into Playoffs

The Salina South Cougars are headed into the state playoffs on a roll. The Cougars finished district play a perfect 3 -0 Friday night with a 56 – 13 win over Great Bend on Senior Night at Salina Stadium.
The Cougars scored first, on a Mike Jones 53 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Great Bend would come right, and score on a 9 yard interception return. The extra point was blocked, and South led 7 – 6 at the end of the first quarter,
The second quarter was all South, though, as the Cougar offense would score 35 unanswered point to put the game out of reach. South led at the half 42 – 6.
The Cougars would score two more touchdowns in the third quarter, before Great Bend tacked on the final touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter. The final margin of victory for South was 56 – 13.
Mike Jones had a huge night on his final regular season game as a Cougar. He finished with over 200 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
It was a big Senior Night for several other Cougars as well. Seniors Walker Vinson and Zach Nachbar caught touchdown passes from senior quarterback Justin Stonebraker, and senior Ryan Fox had a rushing touchdown.
South finishes the season at 7 – 2, and will host a playoff game at Salina Stadium next Friday night.
