Salina Saints Handle St. Joseph Shield

staff - November 12, 2017 9:24 am

The Salina Saints hit the hard wood Saturday night ranked #15 in the Nation, and placing their UNDEFEATED record on the line.  The Saints welcomed the St. Joseph Shields to the Tony’s Event Center, but the welcome was not very welcoming.

The Saints have changed their introduction music and their opening performance matched it.  The crowed was pumped and before they knew it; the Saints had jumped out to a 15 point lead.  The saints grabbed control of the game early, and never looked back.  Even though the Saints were not shooting up to their standards they still amassed 40% from the field and 38% from the ark.  The score was 44-17 after one and 76-41 at the half.  Then came the BOOM.  The Saints finished the 3rd period 123-63.  Needles to say, the regulars didn’t spend a lot of time on the court Saturday night.  Not to mention, the big men for the Saints spent most of the time in foul trouble, and were not able to impose their will as they had hoped.

All in all the Saints finished the game 154-93.  Coach Favors was able to rest the regulars a lot, and was still able to work on some key aspects of the game strategically.  The Saints also unveiled a new full court press that caused several turnovers.  The Saints were lead in scoring by Marquez Patterson with 28, and Koury Clayton with 26. Tim Niles and Scottie Gardner lead the team with 3 steals each, and Gardner led the team with 5 assists.

The Saints take their winning Streak on the road next weekend, and will return home, 11/25 @ 7:00 PM to take on Rival KC Soul.

Come join the fun and support your UNDEFEATED Salina Saints!!!
