HIGHLIGHTS: Salina Central Rips Andover Central

The Salina Central Mustangs got the shot of confidence they needed before district play with a 30-6 win at Andover Central.
Both teams would have drives stall in opponent territory to open the game. After a Salina Central punt, Andover Central would score on an eight-play drive on a 22-yard pass from Blake Meier to Tyler Harris to make it 6-0 Andover Central.
Salina Central would score on the first play of the second quarter, as JW Maldaner scored on a 1-yard sneak, tying the game at 6.
Andover Central would turn the ball over on downs at the Mustang 24. Salina Central would take advantage. A 54-yard run by Terrell Rodriguez set up a 1-yard plunge by Malik Veal, giving Central a 13-6 lead with 5:26 to go in the half.
The Jaguars would drive to the Mustang 15 on the next drive, but would stall out with four incomplete passes, as the Mustangs held on to the 13-6 halftime lead.
The Mustangs would add a score in the third quarter. After Andover Central returned the opening kickoff of the half to the Mustang 31, Vance Johnson would come up with an interception to end the threat. Johnson returned the ball to the 50. On the next play, Veal scored on a 50-yard run, pushing the Mustang lead to 20-6.
Salina Central would have another drive stall deep in Andover Central territory, while the Jaguar offense sputtered for the rest of the quarter, as the Mustangs led 20-6 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs pulled away. Tanner Robl booted through a 23-yard field goal. After Andover Central punted, and the Mustangs scored again on Rodriguez’s 10-yard run.
The Mustangs were led by 169 yards on the ground from Malik Veal. Central tallied 405 yards of offense.
Andover Central was led by Meier’s 242 passing yards, and tallied 338 total yards. The Jaguars had just 10 yards rushing in the second half.
Salina Central and Andover Central are both 4-2.
The Mustangs host Salina South next week.
