Sacred Heart Splits at Irish Cassic

Sacred Heart split a boys and girls doubleheader against El Dorado at the Irish Classic in Chapman on Tuesday afternoon. The girls won 36-33 while the boys fell by a 52-45 score.
In the opening quarter of the girls game, the two teams traded 5-0 runs and the Lady Knights led 10-5. Sacred Heart led by seven points three seperate times in the second quarter and were up 22-14 at halftime.
In the third quarter, El Dorado scored the first four points to cut the deficit in half, but the Lady Knights then took their biggest lead of the game at 27-18. The Lady Wildcats followed that by scoring the last three points of the third quarter and the first five points of the fourth quarter for an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 27-26. El Dorado was also within a point at 31-30, but Sacred Heart pulled away and held on for a three-point win.
The boys game began quickly as each team made a basket in the first 25 seconds of the game. El Dorado scored the game’s first points, but Sacred Heart tied the game, took the lead, went on a 9-0 run, and were on top 13-8 after the opening quarter. The Knights led by as many as ten points at 18-8, but the Wildcats went on a 13-4 run to end the half. El Dorado briefly led 21-20, but Sacred Heart reclaimed the lead and clung to a 22-21 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, El Dorado went back on top with their biggest lead to that point at 32-28 and led 35-33 after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, and the Knights trailing by three points, a personal foul and technical foul were called against El Dorado. Brooks Brown calmly made all four free throws to give the Knights a one point lead at 38-37. Sacred Heart led once more at 40-39, but a 6-0 El Dorado run gave them the lead for good.
The Sacred Heart girls improve to 2-0 while the boys fall to 1-1. The Knights will next face Chapman Friday night in the Irish Classic with the girls tipoff at 6:30 and the boys at 8:15. The games can be heard on Classic Hits 104.9 or online at 1049classichits.com.
