In their third meeting this season, Sacred Heart defeated Southeast of Saline when it mattered most. The Knights advanced to Saturday’s 3A substate championship game at Marion with a 54-41 win.

Sacred Heart led nearly wire-to-wire in their substate victory Thursday night. Trailing 3-2 early in the game, the Knights went on a 6-0 run and never looked back. Sacred Heart led 19-9 after the first quarter and 34-15 at halftime.

The Knights built their biggest lead of 21 points early in the second half and were ahead 47-32 after three quarters. Southeast of Saline got as close as 11 points in the fourth quarter with the score 49-38, but Sacred Heart extended their lead once again and went on for a 13-point postseason win.

Brooks Brown led the Knights with 17 points and Jerod Toogood added 12 points. Easton Montgomery led the Trojans with 16 points.

Sacred Heart will face top-seeded and undefeated Hesston in Marion Saturday night with a trip to the 3A state tournament on the line. Pregame is at 7:20 and tipoff at 7:30 with coverage on Classic Hits 104.9.
