Royals Say Farewell to Free Agents in 14-2 Loss to Arizona

The Kansas City core of players said goodbye for what could be the final time.
Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar tipped their caps to a large crowd during KC’s 14-2 loss to the playoff-bound Arizona Diamondbacks. The foursome joined the Royals in 2011 and keyed the team’s run to two World Series appearances.
The group was pulled together with one out in the fifth innings. It was only a 3-2 Arizona lead at that point, but manager Ned Yost wanted a proper sendoff for the guys.
Hosmer didn’t leave Kauffman Stadium without giving fans a souvenir. He launched a solo homerun to left field in his first at-bat.
Starter Jason Vargas took the loss as he gave up six runs on six hits in four innings of work.
Kansas City ended 2017 with an 80-82 record.
