Red-Hot Doane Downs KWU

Hot-shooting Doane proved to be too much for Kansas Wesleyan, sending the Coyote men’s basketball team to its 10th-straight loss on Saturday night at Mabee Arena, 103-90.
In the first half, the game had a good up-and-down pace. The lead changed hands 13 times, but Doane took the last lead change at 40-38. The Tigers then closed the half by scoring 22 of the final 32 points, leading by as much as 13 before leading by 11 at the break, 59-48.
The second half wasn’t much kinder to the Coyotes. Wesleyan would get as close as eight at 73-65 with 13:16 left, but Doane would rebuild as much as a 17-point lead down the stretch in a 103-90 win.
Dylan Hidalgo led the Coyotes with a career-high 21 points, while Dominique Johnson matched his career-high with 16 points. Brock Borovetz added 14 points.
Nick Reed led Doane with 25 points, while Sam Schlautman added 21 points on seven threes. Doane had five players in double figures.
The Tigers shot 57 percent from the floor in the game and hit 13-of-27 three-point attempts. The Coyotes hit 49.2 percent from the floor.
The Coyotes fall to 2-12 overall, while Doane is 8-8. KWU is at Friends on Thursday. Pregame coverage is at 5:50 with tip-off at 6 for the women and 8 for the men on Classic Hits 104.9.
