Numerous Area Athletes Qualify for State Track

Regional track meets took place on Friday. Salina Central and Salina South competed in Class 5A at Salina Stadium, Sacred Heart and Southeast of Saline competed in Class 3A at Marion, and Ell-Saline competed in Class 2A at Herington. The top four finishers at each regional site advance on to the state meet.
Marcus Cutler was the regional champion and is the top qualifier for the state meet in the 100 meters. Mike Jones also qualified in the 100 with a second place finish and posted the third best time in all 5A regionals.
Jones won the 200, but posted the fifth best time in 5A regionals. Marcus Williams also qualified for the Cougars in the 200.
Cutler and Jones also went 1-2 in the 400.
Tristan Irish was third in the 1600 and 3200 to qualify in both events. Johnathan Dominguez was fourth in the 3200 to qualify.
The 4×400 relay won the regional to qualify.
Marcus Cutler won the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 7 ¼ inches.
Cade Calvert placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles.
The Mustang boys qualified the 4×100 relay by placing third. The 4×400 relay was also third to qualify.
Decker Gates was fourth in the high jump clearing 6 feet to qualify. He was also third in the triple jump to qualify.
Drew Diederich led the charge for Sacred Heart, winning the 100, 200 and 400.
Chris Sandquist will join Diederich in the 400. Sandquist also qualified in the 800, taking the event.
Cory Donley and Kane Comfort finished second and fourth in the 800 respectively. Donley also swept the titles in the 1,600 and 3,200.
The 4×100 meter relay and 4×800 relay won the regional, while the 4×400 was second.
Trevor Webb and Austin Palen were first and second respectively in the 110 hurdles.
Southeast of Saline
The Trojan boys qualified Cody Smith in the 100, after he placed second at regionals. Smith was also second in the 200.
Kendal Peterson qualified by placing third in the 800.
Alex Bell was fourth in the 1,600.
The 4×100 meter relay was second, while the 4×400 and 4×800 finished fourth each to advance to state.
Matthew Helvey was fourth in the high jump and long jump.
Aidan Murray was fourth in the shot put.
Forrest Dreyer was second in the 1,600 and 3,200.
The 4×800 meter relay was third to qualify for state.
Luiz Antonio Arceo was second in the long jump.
Evan Morrical was second in the discus and third in the shot put.
Mareshah Francois was third in the 200 meters.
Jetta Greene won the 400.
Katelynn May won the 800.
The 4×400 meter relay placed first while the 4×100 meter relay was fourth.
Erin Harvey placed fourth in the discus to qualify.
Michelle Parker was fourth in the javelin.
Bronwyn Ross and Halie Turner placed second and third respectively in the pole vault.
Shaelyn Martin swept the hurdles events, taking the 100 and 300 meters.
Demi Roets was fourth in the 100 meters to qualify for state.
Paige Rose finished fourth in the 200.
Megan Holloway was second in the 800.
The 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay were both third, while the 4×800 relay was fourth.
Emily Webb was second in the javelin.
The 4×800 meter relay team placed third.
Southeast of Saline
Allison Stutterheim was the top placer in the 800 and 1,600 meters.
The 4×400 meter relay picked up a first place finish.
Lindsay Poague was second in both the long and triple jumps, in addition to the 100 meter hurdles.
Alaura Hemphill was fourth in the shot put.
Kylee Poague won the 300 meter hurdles.
Emma Drees won both the 200 and 400 meters, and was third in the long jump.
Aubrey Wilson won the 800 meters.
Katelynn Adam won both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.
The 4×400 meter relay was first and the 4×800 meter relay was second.
Bryna Rietcheck was fourth in the javelin.
