KWU’s Smith, Kresin Selected Preseason All-KCAC

WICHITA – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has announced its 2013-14 Preseason All-KCAC Women’s Basketball team and Kansas Wesleyan’s Alecia Smith andVanessa Kresin were selected to the team as voted by the conference coaches.

Smith, a senior forward from Elkhart, Kan., was one of only three First Team All-KCAC performers from last season to earn a spot on the team. Janelle Rust and Nikki Lewis from Tabor College were the other two.

Smith led the Coyotes in scoring and rebounding last season, averaging 14.2 points and 7.87 rebounds per contest as she played in and started all 31 games for the Coyotes. She led the KCAC in rebounding last year (244 / 7.87 average), total points scored (440) and double-doubles (7). She was second in the conference in scoring average.

Kresin, a junior guard from Glen Elder, Kan., averaged 11.1 points and 5.55 rebounds for the Coyotes in 2012-13. She led both the team and KCAC conference in steals per game, averaging 2.87 swipes per contest and ranked No. 18 in NAIA Division II in steals per game and total steals (89). She scored a career high 22 points against Ozarks (Mo.) last season and equaled a career high in rebounds with 13 against Johnson and Wales (Colo.). She was named Third Team All-KCAC last season as a sophomore.

The 2013-14 KWU Women’s Basketball team opens the season on November 1 and 2 in the Doane Tiger Classic in Crete, Neb. The Coyotes take on Dakota Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Friday, and host Doane College at 11 a.m. Saturday. The home opener for the Coyotes is November 11 at 6 p.m. against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in Mabee Arena.
