MARSHALL, Mo. – Kansas Wesleyan got goals by Noemy Castro (JR/Riverside, Calif.) andEmma Rogers (JR/Clovis, Calif.) to rally for a 2-1 victory over the Missouri Valley Vikings on Monday evening at Gregg-Mitchell Field on the MVC Campus.

Missouri Valley lit the lamp first in the ninth minute when Andrea Garcia assisted Haley Ennis for the goal.

Wesleyan got the equalizer in the 28th minute on a goal by Noemy Castro. The teams would head to the half tied 1-1.

Emma Rogers scored the match winner in the 51st minute on a free kick from around 25 yards out and Wesleyan’s defense dug in after that negating any offensive push that came from the Vikings.

Defense ruled the match for both teams as there were only a combined 15 shots in the match with KWU holding an 8-7 advantage led by three from Castro. Rachel Cardwell (JR/Phoenix, Ariz.) picked up the win between the pipes for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes will return to action on Friday and Saturday, hosting the Kansas Wesleyan Women’s Soccer Classic. Friday’s matches will be played in McPherson at McPherson College due to facility conflicts in Salina. Ottawa will take on Hastings College at 6:30 p.m. in the first match, followed by KWU and Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Classic continues on Saturday back in Salina with Ottawa taking on Oklahoma Wesleyan at 9 a.m. at Salina Stadium, and KWU taking on Hastings at 2 p.m.
