KWU Tennis Swept by Bethel

Kansas Wesleyan was swept by the Bethel Threshers on the tennis courts on Thursday afternoon in various locations around Salina. The KWU women lost 9-0 and the Coyote men lost 8-1 to the Threshers.
Due to scheduling snafus, the matches started at Oakdale Park, but then had to be moved to the Salina Country Club and Jerry Ivey Park to be completed.
On the women’s side in doubles Bree Honer and Steph Shogren beat Cassidy Cook(FR/Salina, Kan.) and Chelsea Ebenkamp(FR/Conway Springs, Kan.) 8-3; Madelyn Weaver and Allie Hipp knocked off Vallerie Zuaznabar and Maria Rodriguez (JR/Oklahoma City, Okla.) 8-0; and Rachel Shogren and Alyssa Scheuerman beat Rachel Hasch(FR/Concordia, Kan.) and Sydney Reese(FR/Aurora, Colo.) 8-3.
In singles, Honer beat Rodriguez 6-0, 6-1; Steph Shogren beat Reese 6-3, 6-1; Hipp beat Cook 7-6 (8-2), 6-1; Weaver beat Zuaznabar 6-2, 6-1 and Scheuerman beat Hasch 6-1, 6-1.
“Despite the scores, we really competed on the women’s side,” Wesleyan coach Bob Warkentine said. “We played well for the most part today.”
On the men’s side in doubles, Bethel won all the matches played. Logan Palenske and Chris Soosalu beat Leonardo Mendez(JR/Bogota, Colombia) and Daniel Railsback (FR/Neodesha, Kan.) 8-1 and Jesse Voth-Gaeddert and Brooks Taylor knocked offAlex White (JR/Van, Texas) and Taylor Bahan (FR/Ellsworth, Kan.) 8-1.
In singles, Bahan picked up the lone point for the Coyotes with a win over Kris Dubach 7-5, 1-6, 10-8. In the other matches, all won by Bethel, Palenske beat Mendez 6-1, 6-0; Voth-Gaeddert beat White 6-2, 6-3; and Soosalu beat Railsback 6-2, 6-0.
The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday, when they head to Ottawa to take on the Braves at 9 a.m.
