Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Fear announces the signing of Jonathan Dutra to a letter of intent as part of the Coyotes’ 2014-15 recruiting class.
Dutra, a 6-0, 170 pound point guard from San Diego, California, played at Mate Dei Catholic High School helping the team to a 30-3 record. They were Mesa League champions, Under Armour Tournament champions, Eagle Classic Tournament champions, CIF-SDS Division II Champions and reached the Southern California Final Four.
Dutra averaged 11 points, four rebounds and seven assists per game while earning Second Team All-League honors. He was also the Eagle Classic Tournament MVP. He was also on the Principal’s Honor Roll and was named to the First Team All-CIF Academic Team.
Dutra’s high school coach Kenny Caesar had this to say about him: “Jonathan is a winner and the heart and soul of our team.”
He said he chose Kansas Wesleyan because of the coaches and the environment fit him best along with the support of his family and friends.
“The KWU coaching staff is very pleased to introduce Jonathan Dutra to the Coyote Community,” KWU coach Chris Fear said. “He is an outstanding addition to our program. He is a quality young man and a very fine basketball player. He played a major role on a big time team in San Diego. Jonathan completes a quality recruiting class for 2014.”
The Coyotes open the 2014-15 season on October 29 on the road at Doane (Neb.) College. The Coyote home opener is on October 31 against Concordia (Neb.) University at 7 p.m. at Mabee Arena.
