KWU Men Seek a Victory at Saint Mary

THE LAST MEETING AND SERIES
The Coyotes last met with Saint Mary on December 14 in Salina with the Spires coming away with a 78-60 win. Wesleyan led 11-8 with 13 minutes left in the first half, but Saint Mary took a 19-11 with 11 minutes left in the half. The Coyotes got back within a point twice before the Spires took a 35-31 lead at the half. The Coyotes came back to lead 37-35 with 17:22 left in the game, but a 13-0 run by Saint Mary gave the Spires a 48-37 lead with 14:31 left. Michael Johnson had 18 points to lead the Coyotes while Dylan Hidalgo and Garret Pasold had eight rebounds each. Grant Greenberg had 19 points to lead Saint Mary.

LOOKING AT THE COYOTES
Wesleyan is looking to rebound from a disappointing 69-46 loss to Southwestern on Saturday in Winfield. The Coyotes are 4-18 overall and a 2-10 mark in the conference.

LAST TIME OUT
The Coyotes struggled shooting the ball on Saturday in a 69-46 loss to Southwestern in Winfield. Wesleyan shot just 26.2 percent from the field in the game. Southwestern took a 7-0 lead to start the game and led 23-7 with 9:09 to go in the first half. Southwestern took a 34-15 lead into the half. Wesleyan got no closer than 22 points the rest of the way at 66-44 with 1:12 left.Brock Borovetz had 11 points and Braxton Stein had eight rebounds to lead the Coyotes.

Brock Borovetz leads the Coyotes in scoring at 13.8 points per game and Michael Johnson leads the Coyotes in rebounding at 5.0 per game. Saint Mary enters Thursday’s game with a 14-8 record overall and an 8-4 mark in the KCAC after a 73-71 victory over Friends on Saturday. Saint Mary jumped out to an 8-2 lead but Friends came back to take a 26-25 lead with 2:57 to go in the first half. Saint Mary would respond, building its lead to 45-34 with 15:23 to go in the game and led 59-49 with 9:07 to go. Friends would storm back to take a 66-64 lead with 3:44 to go. The score was tied 71-all when Shiron Williams would score the game-winning bucket with a second left. Joe Mitchell led Friends with 21 points, 12 under his season scoring average, while Anthony White had 17 points and nine rebounds. Grant Greenberg led Saint Mary with 28 points as the Spires shot 55.1 percent from the field in the game.

Grant Greenberg leads Saint Mary in scoring, averaging 27.0 points per game, which ranks him fourth best in NAIA Division II. Sterling Roaf is Saint Mary’s leading rebounder, averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. Saint Mary shoots 46.5 percent from the field on the season on the way to averaging 80.1 points per game.
