KWU Baseball Sweeps Manhattan Christian

KSAL Sports - April 23, 2014 8:16 am

The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes completed a suspended game between KWU and Manhattan Christian and then played a nine-inning game on Tuesday afternoon at Matson Field in Salina. The Coyotes would win the suspended game 21-3 and then would beat the Crusaders 13-3 in a run-rule shortened game in the night cap.

The suspended game was resumed after being stopped in the top of the fifth inning on March 18 in Manhattan. Wesleyan led 19-2 at the point of interruption, and the game was picked up at that point and finished to completion.

Wesleyan broke open the original contest with a 14-run inning in the top half of the fourth and had runners at first and third with no one out when the game was suspended due to darkness.

Wesleyan added one run in the fifth and another in the sixth before coming away with the 21-3 win in the game.

The second game was all Coyotes as well. Manhattan Christian scored first in the first on a RBI single, but the Coyotes tied things in the bottom half of the inning when Drew Cratsenberg (SO/Federal Way, Wash.) scored on a wild pitch. The Coyotes added three more in the second on a RBI walk by Omar Sadaoui (SR/Littleton, Colo.) and a 2-run single by Kyle Buchanan(JR/Placerville, Calif.).

An RBI ground out by Michael McGovern (JR/Grand Junction, Colo.) yielded another run for the Coyotes in the third, and Wesleyan would add three more in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Luke Curry (SO/Salina, Kan.), a bases loaded walk by Chase Gordon(SR/Ukiah, Calif.) and a bases loaded hit by pitch by Jake Hawkins (JR/Modesto, Calif.).

Kyle Story (SR/Lakewood, Colo.) homered in the sixth as the Coyotes continued to pull away. Manhattan Christian got two runs back in the top of the seventh on a pair of RBI singles, but the Coyotes would end the game in the seventh with three runs.

Jordan Dee (JR/Glendale, Ariz.) connected on an RBI single, as did Curry and Cratsenberg  would end the game with an RBI single.

Brandon Ramsey (SR/Denver, Colo.), who did not throw a pitch in the resumed game, picked up the win, going four innings for the win. Adam Matz (JR/Lincolnville, Kan.) closed out the resumed game for the Coyotes. Brandon Wescher (FR/Gilberts, Ill.) got the win in the niner, going five innings, allowing a run on six hits and striking out five. Petey Martinez (FR/Pueblo, Colo.) pitched two innings giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Cratsenberg and Curry had two hits each to lead the Coyotes, while six others had one hit each.

The Coyotes will close out the regular season on Friday at Friends, and then host the Falcons on Saturday in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. at Dean Evans Stadium.
