The Sacred Heart Knights have made the play-offs for the fifth consecutive year with a 35-0 win at Moundridge.

The Sacred Heart Knights have made the play-offs for the fifth consecutive year with a 35-0 win at Moundridge.

With just three returning starters, and two of them seniors, 10th-year Sacred Heart volleyball coach Rose Wittman has to turn to younger players to fill out her varsity lineup.

Senior Maggie Doll and junior Makenzie Kack are back at outside hitter, while senior Zoe Woolsoncroft returns at middle blocker. Elsewhere, the Knights have to look to younger and less experienced players.

Wittman expects junior setter Jacey Goetz, sophomore middle blocker Grace Ivey, sophomore middle/right side Gabrielle Diederich, freshman middle/right side Kelsey Doll and freshman setter Haylie Rodriguez to be among those who contribute to the Knights.

Wittman says team strengths are a “balanced offense” with “no one star,” but “replacing starters with young players” will provide some difficulties.

Wittman looks for her team to “become more efficient passers and servers.”

The Knights open the season on Tuesday at the Bennington Triangular.
