The Sacred Heart Knights have made the play-offs for the fifth consecutive year with a 35-0 win at Moundridge.
The Sacred Heart baseball team couldn’t quite close out a game two win against Beloit on Monday, and settled for a split of the doubleheader at Matson Field. The Knights took game one 11-0 before Beloit rallied for a 12-9 win in game two.
In game one, the Knights were dominant. Justin McCartney led the charge, throwing a three-hit shutout on the mound, and then added three RBI at the plate. A six-run fourth inning in the opener allowed the Knights to win by run-rule. Sacred Heart did its damage in the inning thanks to nine walks.
In game two, the Knights were down 2-0 early, but scored six runs over the first two innings to lead 6-2. Sacred Heart would hold on to an 8-5 lead into the seventh inning, but Beloit rallied for seven runs in the final frame to take a 12-8 lead. The Knights mustered a run in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to tie the game. Drew Gormley had three RBI in the game.
The Knights drop to 8-8 on the season and finish NCAA play at 5-5.
