HIGHLIGHTS: South Cruises Past Newton
Todd Pittenger - October 11, 2013 10:28 pm
The Salina South Cougars rolled to a 40 – 13 victory Friday night over Newton in a tuneup to next week’s district opener with Salina Central.
The Cougars scored the first two touchdowns of the game, on the legs of Justin Stonebraker and Mike Jones. Stonebraker scored on a nifty 26 yard run, and then a couple of minutes later Mike Jones took it in from 5 yards out.
Newton responded with a 61 yard touchdown pass from Jack Kingsley to Bradley Million. But that’s all Newton would get until there were only three minutes left in the game.
The Cougars piled up the points with two touchdowns by Zach Nachbar, one by Mitch Roets on a great catch in the endzone, and a final touchdown run by Justin Stonebraker.
The South special teams were pretty special as well, blocking two punts.
The Cougars are now 4 – 2, and will be the visiting team next Friday Night at Salina Stadium as they take on the Central Mustangs.
