HIGHLIGHTS: Sacred Heart Rolls Past Republic County

The Sacred Heart Knights have made the play-offs for the fifth consecutive year with a 35-0 win at Moundridge.
Sacred Heart’s offense tallied five touchdowns Friday night, but it was the Knight defense that dominated the game as Sacred Heart cruised to a 46 to nothing victory over the Buffaloes of Republic County. The last 13 plus minutes of the game was played with a continuous clock due to the so-called “mercy” rule that allows the clock to run non-stop when a team gets ahead by 45 or more points in the second half.
Republic County never entered Knight territory, were held to one first down and had more plays for negative yards than positive.
Meanwhile, the Sacred Heart offense got a pair of touchdown passes from Nick Wuthnow to Austin Palen, two one-yard runs by Wuthnow and Josh Dolan for scores and another Wuthnow TD pass to Clayton Wetter. For the second week in a row, Wetter also had a defensive touchdown when he scooped up a Buffalo fumble and scampered into the end zone from 12 yards out. The other Knight score came on special teams when Cedric Salas returned a Republic County punt 40 yards to the house.
The 2 and 0 Knights expect a much stiffer challenge next week when Sedgwick travels to Salina. A year ago at Sedgwick the Knights won an overtime thriller 38 to 35.
