Hawks, Eagles Split Twin Bill

The Salina Hawks 16-and-under Junior American Legion baseball team and the Salina Eagles 15-and-under Junior American Legion team split a doubleheader on Sunday. The Hawks took the opener 2-1, while the Eagles won the nightcap 8-4.
In game one, the Hawks used Jacob Pengra’s leadoff double to put pressure on the Eagles. Nick Shaffer followed with a single, and Cody Walters loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch. Colin Blackim picked up the game-winning RBI when he drew a walk.
Jordan McMillian picked up the win in relief for the Hawks, while Aaron Chapman took the loss.
In game two, the Eagles scored five times in the first inning to take control and cruised to the 8-4 win. Thomas Williams and Brik Thompson had two hits each for the Eagles. Jacob Foster was the winner while Bryce Vannoy took the loss.
The Hawks open the Kansas Grand Slam tournament at 6pm Thursday against the Wichita Reds at Dean Evans Stadium. The Eagles open the Grand Slam at 9am Thursday against the Topeka Scrappers at Dean Evans Stadium.
