Friday Hoops Preview: Full Slate in Saline County

A full night of high school basketball is set in Saline County.

Salina Central starts Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I play tonight, as the Mustangs host Newton. The Central girls are 2-0 with wins over McPherson and Andover Central, while Newton is 2-1, placing third in last weekend’s Hays City Shootout. The Central boys are 1-1 after Tuesday’s win over Andover Central. Newton’s boys are 2-1, also placing third in the Hays City Shootout. Pregame coverage is at 5:50pm with tip-off at 6 on SportsRadio 1150 KSAL.

Salina South is back on the court for the first time in a week, playing its home openers against Buhler. The Cougar girls are coming off a 35-21 loss to Goddard Eisenhower, while the South boys fell by two on the road. Both Buhler squads are 1-0 after sweeping Smoky Valley on Tuesday. Pregame coverage is at 5:50pm with tip-off at 6 on Y93.7.

Sacred Heart returns to Chapman for the second day of play in the Irish Classic. The Knights meet the hosts tonight. Sacred Heart’s girls are 2-0 and 1-0 in tournament play after a win over El Dorado on Tuesday, while the boys are 1-1 and 0-1 in the tournament with Tuesday’s loss to the Wildcats. Chapman’s boys and girls are both 0-1 after losses to Rossville on Tuesday. Pregame coverage is at 6:20pm with tip-off at 6:30 on Classic Hits 104.9.

Southeast of Saline looks to move to 2-0 in both boys and girls play at the Herington Tournament. The Trojans are coming off Thursday’s wins over Wakefield, and both squads are 2-0 on the season. Southeast meets Rural Vista, a combination of Hope and White City, today. Rural Vista is 1-0 for both boys and girls this season. The girls tip at 4pm with the boys to follow at 5:30.

Ell-Saline has both its boys and girls in the semifinals of the Morris/Stephens Classic in Lincoln today. Both squads are 1-1 after wins over Russell on Monday. The Cardinal boys face Nickerson (1-0) at 8:30 tonight, while the girls play host Lincoln (1-1) at 7pm.
