Falcons Swept, Hawks Get Sweep

The Salina Falcons Senior American Legion baseball team was swept by Great Bend on Wednesday night, 7-5 and 9-3.
In game one, Great Bend picked up three hits in the three-run third. The Falcons got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the third, and took the lead on Keenan Breen’s two-run double in the fifth. However, Great Bend tallied four runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead. The Falcons picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth, but left the potential tying runs on base in the bottom of the seventh.
In game two, Great Bend took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Falcons tied the game in the bottom half with RBI from Conner Boyer and Dane Long. Dalton Dooley’s RBI single in the second gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead. However, the Falcons were shut down the rest of the night. Great Bend used a seven-run fifth inning to take the lead, scoring five times with two outs in the inning.
The Falcons are 16-5 on the season.
The Salina Hawks 16-and-under Junior American Legion baseball team took two from Clearwater on Wednesday night, 2-1 and 12-2.
In game one, the Hawks won in dramatic fashion when Jacob Pengra scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Falcons the 2-1 win. Jordan McMillian was the winner in relief. Sam Mermis and Nick Shaffer had a pair of hits each.
In game two, Pengra struck out eight in picking up the four-inning complete game win. Shaffer picked up three more hits. Pengra, Cody Walters and Bryce Vannoy all had two hits.
The Hawks are 11-8 on the season.
