Falcons Stumble at State

KSAL Sports - July 31, 2014 6:04 am

The Salina Falcons Senior American Legion baseball team couldn’t hold on to an early lead, as Hays rallied for a 6-4 win in the first round of the Class AAA State Tournament in Pittsburg.

The Falcons took advantage of three Hays errors in the top of the second, scoring four runs. Hays started to rally in the third, getting a run. Hays then used a Falcon error in the sixth to help spark a five-run sixth inning, giving Hays the lead for good.

The Falcons managed to load the bases in the ninth, and with two outs, the game went into an hour-long rain delay. Following the delay, the Falcons grounded out to end the game.

Justin McCartney had three hits, while Sam Mermis and Jordan Floyd both had two hits.

The Falcons face Dodge City at 10am Thursday in an elimination game.
