Falcons Fall in Zone

KSAL Sports - July 23, 2014 6:26 am

The Salina Falcons Senior American Legion baseball team faces a win-or-stay-home situation on Wednesday after Tuesday’s 11-4 loss to Newton in the Class AAA Zone Tournament at Dean Evans Stadium.

A win today against Manhattan puts the Falcons into next week’s Class AAA state tournament in Pittsburg. A loss ends the season. First pitch is at 4pm at Dean Evans Stadium.

The Falcons fell behind early in yesterday’s contest against Newton. Newton scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead, but Salina tied the game in the top of the fourth with RBIs from Justin McCartney and Dillon Hopkins.

Newton would regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs, and then scored four times in the sixth to open an 8-2 lead. Newton put the game away with a three-run seventh to lead 11-2. The Falcons tallied two runs in the ninth for the final.
