Ell-Saline Falls to Sedgwick

Mike Hammett - September 28, 2013 6:22 am

The Ell-Saline Cardinals had a tough night, falling to Sedgwick 42-6.

After holding their own in a scoreless first quarter, Sedgwick broke through in the second quarter. Dalton Brandt scored the first touchdown on a 1-yard run, and then Sedgwick added 6 and 15 yard scoring runs by Brylie Ware to take a 21-0 lead at the half. Ell-Saline had two chances in the first half, but fumbles inside Sedgwick territory gave Sedgwick momentum.

In the third quarter, Sedgwick continued to pull away. Ware threw a touchdown pass to push the lead to 28-0, and then threw another early in the fourth quarter to make it 35-0.

Ell-Saline would get on the board in the fourth quarter on Justin Schmutz’ 32 yard run, but Sedgwick would add another late score for the final of 42-6.

Ell-Saline was held to 224 yards of offense while Sedgwick racked up 466 yards of offense.

Schumtz led the ground attack with 71 yards on 12 carries. Cody Walters was 4-of-10 passing for 63 yards.

Ell-Saline is 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the Heart of America League. The Cardinals travel to Plainville to open district play this week.
